Expanding PBF to five North-Eastern States
03 May 2016
An additional financing of $145M for the NSHIP is being prepared. Of this financing, $125M is IDA, and $20M will be from the Global Financing Facility (GFF). The operation in the north will focus on the States of Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba and Bauchi states, with a particular attention for Borno and Yobe States. The AF will go to the board on June 7. 2016. The intervention is focused on the two States most affected by the insurgency, Borno and Yobe, and the brunt of the intervention will be in these states.
Additional interventions proposed will be focused gender based violence/mental support for which funding will be channeled through the UN system (an estimated $20M) and mobile teams in conflict affected and insecure areas, mostly in Borno State (a further $20M). Available for PBF interventions including technical assistance will be around $115M for a period of 3.5 years.
The States are expected to sign MOUs (Bauchi and Borno State Governors signed) detailing requirements for PBF implementation. These MOUs also pledge $200,000 per State from the Saving One Million Lives funds for PBF implementation.
